Killing Time

Killing Time by Dale Mathis | Sculpture

Materials: eco wood, Swarovski crystals, composite materials, acrylic, glass, LED lighting This is a piece about rejection. The bullet holes symbolize defiance in the face of rejection when a gallery owner once said that Dale didn’t have what it took to make it in the industry. Killing Time is also an homage to American artists Joshua Johnson, Edmonia Lewis, Robert Scott Duncanson, and Edward M. Bannister, all of whom never received the credit they deserved. This was Dale’s way of immortalizing that moment of rejection, incorporating an element reminiscent of the gallery owner into the piece itself.
