About the Artist
Hessam Abrishami was born on December 30, 1951, in Shiraz, Iran, one of eight children in a middle-class family. At age fifteen, a high school teacher encouraged his early talent, and Abrishami quickly became devoted to painting, winning national student art competitions in Iran by his late teens. Seeking greater artistic freedom, he later left Iran to continue his studies abroad.
He traveled to Italy to attend the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci in Perugia, a place he considered the true center of European art, where he earned his master's degree in fine arts. In 1984, Abrishami moved to the United States, eventually settling first in Los Angeles and later in Miami, Florida, where he continues to create new work today.
Why Hessam Abrishami Is Famous?
Abrishami's paintings are known for their bold color, dynamic composition, and themes of love, romance, and human connection. Greatly influenced by modern masters like Cezanne and Picasso, his abstracted figures have been described as capturing a fluid, almost musical tension between people, inviting viewers to imagine the stories behind each embrace. His Hessam Abrishami serigraph editions bring that same emotional energy into a more accessible, collectible format for fans around the world.
Over his career, Abrishami has exhibited his work in more than 150 solo gallery shows and over 30 international exhibitions, with pieces held in museum collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach. His artwork has also appeared on the covers of several university sociology and psychology textbooks, and he has published six retrospective books celebrating his career.
