Brazilian born and the seventh of nine siblings, Romero Britto is one of the youngest artists to achieve global recognition. Although he is only 43 years of age, Britto has accomplished more in his life than most artists even posthumously. A perfect amalgam of abstract painter and comedic illustrator, Britto's creations are distinctive and colorful.

Despite his mainstream success, it is interesting to note that Britto's artistic career almost never took off. Unsure of whether he could achieve success as an artist, Britto enrolled in law school. He barely made it a year, however, before accepting what he always knew was his true calling, at which point he headed off to Europe to study painting.

Britto didn't have to wait long before his talents were recognized. After opening his own gallery in the late 1980s, he accepted a commission by Absolut Vodka to contribute to their famous advertising campaign. This commission led to dozens of others, which helped cement his reputation as one of America's most widely sought-after artists.
